New Girl Group Alert: BLISS

My previous post was about Just'Us, Mary J. Blige's girl group under Matriarch Entertainment, now, here's another new girl group that's sure to give you the LSS. Meet BLISS! The music industry's newest powerhouse trio. These girls continue to blaze the trail previously traveled by legendary girl groups like TLC and Destiny's Child. The group is composed of Alexis "Lex" Branch, Falicia "Cali" White and Taryn Moody who are sure to wow you with their creativity, charm and finesse.

One of their most notable songs is "Only One For Me" which established their image in the music industry as a girl group with a futuristic-like aura like the pop groups of the 90s.

Introducing Mary J. Blige's new girl group: Just'Us

With the emergence of the comeback of the boybands, girl groups don't want to be left behind in the challenge and if the comeback of boybands produced us Big Time Rush, The Wanted, One Direction and IM5, the comeback of girl groups also has Stooshe, Little Mix, HerStory and Fifth Harmony and of course, the much-awaited comeback of Destiny's Child. Aside from those girl groups, another one has emerged as one of the newest faces in the girl group scene, Just'Us!

Just'Us is Mary J. Blige's answer to the abandonment of the R&B music style of the 90s and the rise of the girl groups. They were debuted in July 4, 2012 after Mary J. Blige wrapped up her four-night concert series at Atlantic City's Caesar's Palace. They were the first girl group to be signed under Blige's Matriarch Entertainment label and very fittingly, they were introduced after her performance of  "No More Drama".

DSPC 2012: The Aftermath

The Division Schools Press Conference or the DSPC last October 29-31 was a really awesome experience for me. This year's DSPC is the first one I've joined and our school won in most categories. Our school was also third in the over-all awards. I won third place in my category which is Feature Writing. So yeah, the top 7 winners get to go to the RSPC in Bayugan City which is going to be on the last week of November.

Those three days have been memorable and amazing and though my sembreak was cut short because of it, joining the contest was worth it and I don't regret joining it.

Of Exams, Confirmation, Sembreak and DSPC and other stuff.

First of all, I'm already back to blogging here! I have been busy for the past few days compiling requirements and doing a truckload of projects and homeworks. Who knew that Junior life wasn't that easy? So our exam's this week and right after that, we're going to have our confirmation followed by the Sembreak and the Division Schools Press Conference which would take place during the sembreak. Talk about hectic here. So yeah, I'm close to my chance of joining DSPC and although the school paper teacher has told me I got the part, I don't want to make any conclusions here yet. So yeah, between studying exams, I have to make a new feature article to be passed to our school paper teacher after finding out that the first article I wrote for this week looked a lot like an editorial than a feature article. 

This week also, I've got new musical interests here. I'm currently into No Doubt, a ska-punk band with Gwen Stefani as the lead vocalist and I'm currently having LSS on "Underneath It All" from their Rock Steady album. For me, No Doubt is one of those bands which still make music that makes sense and I actually like their musical style. 

Other than that, I can't wait for DSPC, not just because of the fact that I might be competing in behalf of our school in a journalism contest for the first time since Grade 6 and also because I would get to bond with my friends who are part of the contest as well. 

I still have to study and finish this feature article I'm currently writing so I'm going to leave you guys this song. Here's Underneath It All by Gwen Stefani. 

Division Science Fair: Somehow an Aftermath

The first day of the Division Science Fair has just ended and this one's a really memorable one compared to the previous one I joined last year (which is the Regional Science Fair because last year, it was scheduled earlier than the Division Science Fair) and yeah, we had a lot of fun and not to mention, we had free snacks in the morning, free lunch and free snacks in the afternoon! 

About the Science Congress, it made my stomach flip at first because the people who faced the judges before me were usually given detailed questions and they had to stand there and talk for a long time. When it was my turn to defend my study, it kinda started out as awkward (and I think the entire thing was damn awkward) and even though it was that way, I still felt awesome after the defending because the judges had positive feedback towards my study and that they weren't harsh in pointing out the mistakes in my study. After that, we already went back to our school and the ride back to school was heck of a fun one. I wasn't able to take pictures of the Science Fair because my iPad wasn't that fully charged and also because we were really busy the entire day, so yeah, that's the reason why this post won't have any photos with it.

To sum it up, today was an awesome and memorable day and if I do make it to the Regional Science Fair, I hope it would be this memorable or more than that.

Tomorrow's gonna be our Troop Encampment and since our teacher has allowed us to skip the awarding for the Division Science Fair so I can go to the Troop Encampment with the rest of the troop.

Disorientation and Hecticness

This week wasn't really the best week I had because that was last week. Most of us in class were disoriented last Monday, I mean, we didn't have proper classes for two weeks straight in preparation of our school's University Days and all of a sudden, here comes regular classes. Last Monday, most of us were tired even if it was still first period, I don't know why I felt sleepy in first period that day when I wasn't supposed to be. The good news is, though, we got used to the situation as the week progressed and today, none of us are having the disoriented feeling. We already got used to the fact that it's regular classes again. 

Hecticness. This weeks a heck of a hectic one, we have a lot of quizzes and assignments and yeah, we weren't really ready for the idea of it because of the disorientation we had back in Monday and the fact that we did not expect this week to be that hectic. Division Science Fair's tomorrow and while I'm making this post, I'm still making the display for tomorrow and that's gonna take a lot of time and because the event's not gonna be in school so we're excused (but I tell you, it ain't really good, I mean we have a long quiz in Geometry tomorrow and I don't think missing it is such a good idea) and on Friday, it's going to be our Troop Encampment and it's going to be out of town so yeah, right after the awarding ceremonies on Friday, I have to catch up with my other friends and schoolmates who will join the Troop Encampment. Though I like travelling, but putting it in these kinds of situations makes it sound hectic, especially the fact that I have to catch up the encampment and make sure that I don't miss out a lot of things from there.

To sum it up, this week's been like a rollercoaster of sorts and I know this may just be the beginning of everything else that we'd expect in Junior year and maybe in Senior year. I really don't know if I could survive this but I hope I do.

Pasikatan 2012

Yesterday was the Pasikatan which is our school's variety show every University Days (and for a recap, the University Days is our school's celebration of it's foundation anniversary) and I decided to take photos of the event and I'm happy to say that I got a lot of good shots and sometimes, I can't even decide which ones should I include to my Photography Portfolio. Oh, and about Jason Dy, if anyone wonders who on earth is this guy, he's a Youtube sensation who is from my hometown and he graduated from the school where I'm currently studying when he was in high school. You might have known him for his cover videos of Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams" and Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time". 

I really think that this year's Pasikatan is really awesome, for one thing, the Hula dancing presentation of the GPTA was something that gave me energy while watching the rest of the show and the contestants from the dance contest were able to come up with creative presentations, something that's beyond the expected. Third, Jason Dy's surprise performance really got everyone pumped up and it was perhaps, one of the most memorable parts from the show.

FSUU University Days 2012: The Opening Ceremonies

Today marks the opening of the 111th foundation anniversary of my school, Father Saturnino Urios University or FSUU and we celebrate this occasion with our school's University days which runs for usually 3-4 days every year. For our opening ceremonies, we first had a mass which was followed by the Opening Ceremonies proper where we had to walk from the gym to the open field of our school. It wasn't that elaborate compared to last years' but still, the opening night was still hyped up.

From the three photos above, I think the best one I took is the first photo. I know that the photos I took are not that good firstly because I wasn't able to move around that freely while taking these photos and also because of my camera's quality but I hope you guys will understand. 

I guess this means I have to go full force tomorrow. Tomorrow's our mass demo and I have to be in school at 6am for the preparations and tomorrow's also the opening of the Peryahan and I have to look after the booth of the Liturgical Committee in the morning and the Theater Arts Club horror house in the afternoon where I'll be taking photos of the entire horror house thing for documentation. Good news is though, the Division Science Fair has been moved to September 20-21 which is next week which means I can enjoy the University Days without missing out some stuff.

Confirmed: Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is now 8 weeks pregnant

This news actually came out four days ago but I didn't notice this until today when I decided to drop by the Inday Sara Duterte fanpage. So yeah, it has been confirmed, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is already 8 weeks pregnant and I'm happy that she has achieved that new milestone in life. The child she is carrying right now is her second child already. Months ago, she has opened up the possibility of preferring to get pregnant over running on the 2013 elections. Nevertheless, I still respect whatever decision she will choose to take in the coming months and although I'm not from Davao City or have I ever lived there, but I am a supporter of her and I congratulate her for her recent success. Mayor Duterte, congratulations po sa inyo and may you, your new bundle of joy and your family have good health and fruitful years ahead!

Rocker Mode: Save Me Hollywood and The Donnas

While I was browsing on the Avril Lavigne Philippines group, someone posted about "Save Me Hollywood", a Filipino band that's kinda like Paramore in some way since the female member of the group is also the lead vocalist (but I'm not saying this band is ripping off Paramore, both are good bands in their own way, you know) and this gave me the idea to make a blog post about this band and The Donnas which are one of my favorite bands. 

First off, I'm going to introduce to you Save Me Hollywood:

Who are they?: Save Me Hollywood is a Filipino band that was established in 2010 and the members are Juliann Savard, you may have known her as one of the VJs of MYX (where her screen name is VJ Julz) while Ariel Lumanlan is on guitars and you may remember him from Chicosci as one of the guitarists. Also on guitars is Aaron Corvera who came from the band "April Morning Skies" and Carlos Calderon is the man behind the bass guitars who is also from Chicosci. On drums is Melvin Macaitag. 

For those who haven't heard their music yet, you should totally hear their debut single, "Reckless".

If I were to rate this band from 1 to 10, I'd give this one an 8.5. Their music is actually something that you can enjoy whether you're a fan of rock music or someone who wants to chill out with some music. The lyrics of their songs are something you can understand and in some cases, relate to and their musical style kinda reminds me of Paramore and The Donnas in some way but of course, Save Me Hollywood, Paramore and The Donnas have distinct musical styles that make them the amazing bands that they are today.

Next in line is The Donnas. A four-piece all-female rock band known for their major mainstream breaktrough in the late 90s with Brett Anderson on lead vocals and guitar, Allison Robretson on guitar and backing vocals, Maya Ford on bass and backing vocals and Amy Cesari on drums/percussion. Prior to 2009, Torry Castellano was on drums but she had to leave the group after being diagnosed of tendonitis and Cesari replaced her as the drummer/percussionist of the band.

You may have heard of them: In the movie, "Drive Me Crazy" where their cover of "Keep On Lovin' You" was used and they also made a cameo appearance in this movie in the Homecoming Dance scene and a few scenes before that. Their song, "Take It Off" was also featured in "The Hangover" as well.

I really think that The Donnas are one of the best rock bands around because of their lively and girl power aura and their relatable songs and I'd really look forward for them to have a concert in the Philippines sometime soon. I can't really say anything more about them because they've already got the self-explanatory Wow! factor in their music and yeah, that pretty much explains the awesomeness that The Donnas have and will continue to have.

I can't wait to hear more music from Save Me Hollywood and The Donnas and I am really excited for The Donnas' eight album and Save Me Hollywood's debut album to come out! It would be really awesome if I would be able to see any of the two bands perform live on concert in the future.

September 1st

Today's the first of September which means that University Days is just a week away!  I'm excited for this year's University Days because of the mass demo contest, our horror house in Theater Club which is not your ordinary horror house and our Bohemian-themed Student's Night. And...Division Science Fair. Yeah that one. You see, I got qualified for Division level and the entire idea's pretty hectic. Not sure if I should give my 100% on this one, I mean, we're going to be busy next week with school, of course and our mass demo practices but still, I'm going to give this one a shot. Next week will pretty much be a roller coaster ride of epic proportions. I just hope Division Science Fair will go easy on me and I hope I won't miss Student's Night because of it.

Amazing August is Amazing: The August Experience

So far, this year's August has been really amazing because of all the awesome experiences I had this month. So yeah, here are my Top 3 August experiences:

1. Local Science Camp - This year's Local Science Camp was perhaps the best one I had since I participated back in Grade 6. Though our Division did not win many awards but I still think that it was the best division. Pentasonic for the win!
2. Sarsuela - For the culmination of our Buwan ng Wika, our section was tasked by our Filipino teacher to present a Sarsuela during the program and though it had to be separated into two parts (to make way for the other activities in that program) and eventually into three parts after something unfortunate happened, we still had an awesome presentation and we got positive feedback from our fellow schoolmates and teachers. In fact, there was this student from the 2nd year level who told one of my classmates that we had an awesome presentation and we were the best batch ever.
3. Earthquake - Okay, I didn't really count this as a good experience but for some reason, I think that this event is still worth mentioning. So I was surfing the web around an hour ago when the earthquake started and it was slow at first and I thought it was just nothing but suddenly, the ground started to shake faster but what really panicked me was when the power went off and we had to run outside of the house because of what happened but thankfully, the earthquake stopped after a few minutes and everyone was okay.

Okay, so to sum it up, my August experience is an amazing one despite of what happened today but they say, life is like a rollercoaster, it has ups and downs but these ups and downs make you stronger and better.

Because the exam's done and all is well

Our 2nd Prelim Exams just finished and so far...the exams weren't really that hard except that we had to make a poem with six lines in English where we get to reveal our identity to the poetic world and I really think my poem wasn't that good and Chemistry was kinda confusing and our MAPEH exam was awesome, we did this color-by-number thing for the Arts portion and the drawing formed into Finn from Adventure Time. 

And since the exam's over already, it also means that...I'm gonna continue watching Haeundae Lovers!!! BTW, I'm already done with episode 1 and now, I'm gonna watch episode 2. Heck yeaaaahhh!!!

5 Most Notable Moments from Haeundae Lovers ep. 1:

1. When Dong Baek intimidates Tae Sung on the phone and accuses him for being a phone scammer.
2. When Tam Hee gets soaked with fish and water from So Ra's car.
3. The fight scene between Tae Sung and the drug dealer at the beginning of the episode.
4. Joong Sik's prank on his brother at the beginning of the episode
5. When Tae Song goes "I've never felt this way before" on So Ra and So Ra keeps calling him insane throughout the scene.

New K-Drama Obsession: Haeundae Lovers

Right after tutorials yesterday, I decided to go blog-hopping and while reading the blog post of one blog I came across with, the idea of watching Korean Dramas crossed to my mind and thanks to my brief return to DarkSmurfSub (for now) after that, I discovered Haeundae Lovers (alternate title: Lovers in Haeundae), a K-Drama that has recently started and  the story of the K-Drama is all about a prosecutor who tries to infiltrate and catch a crime family red handed but along the way, he loses his memory because of an accident and he ends up thinking that he is also a gangster and he falls for the daughter of an organized crime ring's boss and as the title of the show would say, the events of the show takes place in the Haeundae district of Busan, South Korea.

As of now, I'm still watching Episode 1 of this show online so yeah, I'll be posting my insights on Episode 1 later, maybe. :)

Movie Review: Surf's Up (2007)

I watched this awesome movie called Surf's Up this morning on Star Movies. I've actually seen the movie a couple of times already since we had a DVD of that movie. Anyway, so on to the plot of the movie, it's about a penguin named Cody Maverick from Shiverpool, Antarctica (a spoof of Liverpool in England) who longs to be a surfer one day. Despite of the fact that no one in Shiverpool, especially Glen, Cody's older brother and even Mikey (the talent scout in the movie) likes the idea of Cody being a surfer, this didn't stop Cody from pursuing his dreams. While on his way to Pen Gu Island for the 9th Big Z Memorial Surf-off, he meets Chicken Joe, a fellow contestant from Michigan and befriends him. On the first day of the Big Z Memorial Surf-off, Cody gets wiped out by the waves and he gets stung by a Sea Urchin in the process which causes him to pass out and Lani, a lifeguard, brings him to Geek, her uncle so that he could be healed and on the next day, Cody wakes up to find out that his Big Z necklace has disappeared and though Geek does not mind about this at first but when he sees the necklace, he returns it to Cody and later, Geek finds Cody sitting on a Koa log and offers to teach him how to make a surfboard but just as they are about to drag it back to Geek's house, they end up losing control of the log and they end up in a shore far from the contest which is revealed to be Big Z's shack and this is where Cody finds out that Geek is Big Z and because of this Cody asks for Big Z's help so that he can win the Surf-off and on the last day of the Surf-off, Cody, Chicken Joe and Tank "The Shredder" Evans compete against each other after being declared as the finalists and Cody is able to take advantage of the contest at first after Tank gets wiped out in the middle of the contest but just as Cody is about to surf in the Boneyards, Tank comes back and tries to take down Cody while Cody warns him that there's a huge rock ahead but Tank disregards this and he hits the rock while Cody is wiped out, leaving Chicken Joe to win the contest and the audiences of the contest thinking that Cody is dead. Cody is then helped by Big Z who was secretly watching the contest and they swim back to the shore just as the memorial service for Cody progresses and everyone rejoices after finding out that Cody and Big Z are alive and Reggie Belafonte uses this as an opportunity to promote himself for "resurrecting" Big Z from the dead. Big Z then invites the spectators to go surfing with him and right after Cody finishes his interview, he joins the rest of his friends in the water.

Rating for the movie (in a scale of 1 to 10): 8.5

Overall Review: I really think that Surf's Up is one of the best movies I've seen, not just because of it's appeal to people of all ages but also because of the lessons that the movie has conveyed to it's viewers and also because of the setting and plot of the movie. The movie never fails to entertain me, even though I've seen it a couple of times already. I really hope that this movie gets a sequel or a spin-off soon. Oh, and the movie's got an awesome soundtrack, too. This was actually one of the things that got me into Hawaiian music.

So yeah, there you have it! This is my review for the movie & I hope you guys enjoy this! :)
